E pā ana ki a mātou / About us

Our story

In 2006 Our founding Director, Liz Stegerhoek Pugh decided to build a business to enable and empower every person living in Aotearoa New Zealand, to gain paid employment.

“I believe we all need a sense of belonging, a way we can add value to society and contribute to our community. We need purpose and direction to have a sense of worth. Having a great work ethic and living a life of purpose promotes resilience. Resilience helps us deal with uncertainty and the ups and downs in life”- says Liz

TRN was launched in 2007, as a vehicle whereby people could have a place to achieve their goals and aspirations in a welcoming, friendly, and accepting environment. A place where relationships are forged, customer service is prioritised, and people add value.

Building a company with a candidate focus was one key driver creating repeat business. Our Clients very quickly saw that TRN was a reputable and credible company to help them build their workforce.

Being a single parent and sole provider, Liz was 100% committed to making this work. Making 200 calls a day, literally pounding the pavement to create connections and conversations with industry contacts. Liz made a point to be seen at every Christchurch networking event getting the word out into the market and giving The Recruitment Network its beginning.

From humble beginnings with a very small budget, Liz rented a small room on Cashel St, with one laptop and phone. Driving candidates to The Recruitment Network was mainly through word of mouth and referrals, remaining steadfast in the belief that if TRN based itself on warmth, connectivity and integrity then we had every right to be on this market.

In Aotearoa we are so fortunate, but not everyone is given the same opportunities at no fault of their own. At TRN our candidates come from a multitude of backgrounds and no two candidates’ motivation are the same.

TRN offers meaningful work that will absolutely undoubtedly change lives. We are doing such important work so let’s have a voice of hope and work together collaboratively to improve people’s livelihoods and wellbeing by creating purposeful, meaningful opportunities for all.

The Recruitment Network has been providing both temporary and permanent staff nationwide since 2007. During that time, we have served over 70,000 candidates and established relationships with over 5,000 happy clients.

“It took focus, tenacity, resilience, and hard work which are traits that I inherited from my immigrant parents” says Liz

And now with offices that cover all of New Zealand, we work with upwards of 4,000 active candidates on a daily basis. We are passionate about offering recruitment in a customer centric way that matches the right candidates with the right position.

We are experts at sourcing great talent for sectors associated with the Food Services Industries and beyond.

People are at the heart of all that we do, and we acknowledge that our clients and candidates are our lifeblood. To that end, our goal is to always exceed expectations, so that every person who interacts with The Recruitment Network knows how important they are to us and to our success.

REAL IMPACT

TRN have been a lifesaver for us during peak occupancy and short-notice sick calls. Their temps arrive briefed, on time, and genuinely ready to jump in, whether it’s breakfast service, housekeeping support, or front-of-house coverage. What I’ve appreciated most is how easy the process is! One call, clear confirmation, and good communication. We’ve had consistent people who fit our team culture, and when we’ve needed a change, TRN have acted quickly and professionally. Reliable, responsive, and easy to work with.

In Events… we don’t wait, and neither do TRN. We’ve used them for bar staff, runners, ticketing support, and pack-in/pack-out across multiple shows. Their people turn up, listen, and get it done, even when timelines shift and the pressure’s on. If you need extra hands that can hit the ground running, these are the folks we call.
Marcus, Operations Lead, Southern Event Company
We engaged TRN initially for temporary cover while we recruited for a permanent role. The temp they placed with us fitted our routines quickly, communicated well with residents and staff, and showed genuine care from day one. After several weeks, we chose to move them into a permanent position. TRN managed the transition clearly and professionally, with no surprises. I valued the straightforward advice, consistent check-ins, and the focus on fit and reliability. For aged care, continuity matters, and TRN understood that.
